Back in 2003 I bought my MG ZR 105+. It was completely standard with 16inch 'Hairpin' alloy wheels, no side skirts and sombre, standard 'Matrix' interior.
It was not long after a set of factory side skirts were fitted and sprayed. The original kick plates were tiny and plain so after speaking to Lockwood International we eventually decided on a design for some replacement stainless steel kick plates, the first set fabricated are now fitted to this ZR
These were soon followed by a twin tailpipe exhaust , rear bumper heat shield, and some different rear light clusters. The customising/modifying bug had taken hold!
The engine bay has been through many different changes, the major change being the addition of various stainless steel covers and the R140 modifiation that was carried out by PTP. (See the 'Dirty Bits' gallery for more information)
A full Janspeed exhaust with race pipe and a carbon fibre ITG Maxogen induction system was added along with an E-Tech strut brace. The engine was also remapped by Z&F Tuning to compliment these modifications. Samco silicon coolant pipes were fitted and modified with the addition of some glass coolant pipes by Engine Optics
The interior has been subject to many changes from the inclusion of black and yellow leather trimming to the addition of TFT screens in the sun visors and rear view mirror. Extra instrumentation has been added to monitor the oil pressure, oil temperature, volts and a ScanGuage 2 for the OBD2 system. Even the pedals were replaced with items from an MG SV-R and the original instruments and switches have been modified including a custom made wiring loom. Steering wheel and seat covers were replaced with MG 'Monaco' versions.
The original 16" hairpin alloys were changed for some Wolfrace 17" 5 spoke rims and the brakes were upgraded with larger ventilated EBC Turbogroove discs and 'Green Stuff' pads. The calipers were also replaced with larger versions from a Rover 623 and the suspension lowered on AVO springs by 30mm
Later on the wheels were changed again. Still with 17" Wolfrace but this time with a front/rear stagger to clear the calipers and the wheel centres have had the addition of a set of 'Glo-Riders'. Brake pads were now changed to the ceramic 'Red Stuff' versions. The bonnet, was carbon fibre vinyl wrapped by Locking Vinyl and the headlights had 'fly-eye' film (now removed due to the poor light output) and the Streetwise protectors sprayed to colour match. The front and rear MG badges were custom made from billet stainless steel. The door rubbing strips were tipped in silver with the 'ZR' logo and the mirrors were replaced with M10 style chrome versions.
Additions to the rear have been an R75 version number plate, a different set of LED lights and a Tegiwa race towing eye. The original spoiler has had the X-Power 'Gurney' spoiler grafted on and the lower spoiler has been carbon fibre vinyl wrapped. The roof now has also been wrapped in vinyl CF to match the bonnet and spoiler. Most recently a set of arch extensions have been sprayed to match and fitted.
There have been many more modifications to the car than have been listed here, but the most extensive modification have been the addition of various different and sometime unique lighting effects.
This has been an insight into just some of the modifications and customisations that I have carried out and am still carrying out. There is a link below that will take you to more comprehensive lists of the modifications and there are other links at the top of the page that will take you to galleries where you can see and watch some of the modifications and the effects.
